Sheshatshiu Innu School (SIS) educates over 500 First Nations students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The school was founded in 2009 to replace the Peenamin McKenzie School. SIS currently has a staff of 82, which include administration, teachers, cultural staff, and support staff.

SIS follows the Newfoundland & Labrador Department of Education curriculum, in addition to Innu language classes, Innu high school credit curriculum, and other cultural and land based learning activities.

In addition to curriculum programming, SIS offers an extra curriculum program with a wide range of activities. The program includes athletics and cultural activities such as traditional crafts and hunting.

Sheshatshiu Innu School to Start a Running Club!:

 
Mr. Miné-Goldring our Grade 8 teacher for SIS, along with Nastahis Andrew & Thea Penashue is planning to start this program starting next week (Thursday, March 17th) at the school.   He is encouraging any community members to participate.  For  the colder months, we will offer running related sporting events at the gymnasium after school every Thursday.  Next week we will be offering basketball–please feel free to join us, if you’re available.   Please encourage your student and/or community members about the fun run/5km race which is tentatively planned for June, 2022. 
 
Now that spring is around the corner let the training begin!

Re-opening & Welcome Back Staff & Students!

Today is the first day back for students. 

Please keep in mind before returning:

  • 1st rapid test 72 hours prior to day of return
  • 2nd rapid test on the morning of day of return
  • Masks to be worn at ALL times
  • Wash your hands
  • Social Distance

If you have not picked up a rapid test kit for your child, they are available at school.  Your child can return to school after 72 hours and rapid testing is complete.

If your child has an Ipad and is returning to school, your child will need to bring their Ipad with them.
