Being a staff member at Sheshatshiu Innu School is very rewarding. Not only do you get to work alongside wonderful, hardworking staff members, but you also get a chance to experience different aspects of the Innu culture. Throughout the school year you will be given opportunities to experience Innu cultural activities with your students. These activities help you bond with your students, and the students love being able to show and teach you things that they experience while out on the land with their families.

What makes me proud to be a staff member of Sheshatshiu Innu School is having the pleasure of watching the students grow from small children into amazing young adults. As a teacher, you typically don’t get the chance to watch students grow from kindergarten through grade 12 as most schools aren’t K-12 schools. Being a staff member of the school since 2009 has meant that I have been able to watch so many students grow up, graduate, and move on to the next chapter in their lives.

What makes working at Sheshatshiu Innu School great is the positive, fun environment. There are so many wonderful opportunities to learn alongside your students, and truly get to know the Innu culture. Many experiences at Sheshatshiu Innu School are ones you would not get to have at any other school. Visits with elders, Innu storytelling, and visits to Innu tents where students watch how Innu donuts are made, are just some of the wonderful things you get to experience at Sheshatshiu Innu School.”
