“My name is Krista Button. I am the high school math teacher. I also teach the Innu Studies course. I have been teaching in Sheshatshiu for 14 years. I truly feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to teach the best students in the world. My students have truly changed my life for the better. I have learned as much from them as they have from me. Teaching at the Sheshatshiu Innu School allows us to get to know our students outside of the classroom. We spend time on the land fishing, setting snares, berry picking, and learning from elders and community members. Building positive, trusting, respectful relationships like this allows for stronger relationships in the classroom. I have been a coach for many of the high school sports teams. Our students have walked away with the sportsmanship banners from almost every single tournament. That shows how truly amazing our students are. They make us proud each and every day. I cannot imagine, nor would I want to teach anywhere else in this world.”
