Jo-Jo is the most recent winner of the MusicNL Industry Awards Long & McQuade Music Educator of the Year for 2020. The awards were handed out as part of this past week's MusicNL festivities from February 1-7, 2021.
Aside from the most recent accolades, Jo-Jo has been a wonderful teacher for our kids since she arrived 2 years ago. Our music program in Natuashish is flourishing, and relationships are too. We are very proud of our teachers like Jo-Jo and we wish her continued success at Mushuau Innu Natuashish School. Way to go, Jo-Jo! Dear Innu;
It has taken us a while to get the Teacher Assistant Training Program off the ground due to the pandemic but we pushed through and we are now ready to start. I want to thank all the students, instructors and our Coordinator, Bernadette Power, for making this possible. Special thanks to Nippissing University who has worked with us to make this happen. If we want to do better as a community, we need to want it badly - ALL of us. I truly believe if we want our language, culture and education to thrive we have to want to push it forward in a positive manner. With this in mind, MTIE is proud to offer the Teacher Assistant training program to our Innu people. We believe it's vital to have trained Innu to assist and teach our Innu children. This program is being offered by Nippissing University and it is the first time Nippissing has brought it to a First Nations community. I am very pleased to say that we have had a lot of interest from the community. We have 10 Innu students in Sheshatshit and 10 in Natuashish registered in the program. I am extremely happy to see our own people continuing to excel and to get further educated to help OUR children. We NEED them. Our CHILDREN need them. Please join us to encourage the new Teacher Assistant trainees and celebrate with them as they start their journey next week. Congratulations to our new students entering the Teacher Assistant Diploma Program! Nin, Kanani Davis, CEO The MTIE Board Office is pleased to present our 2020-2021 Board Office Report. Copies of this report have been distributed to community members in the mail. Many thanks to Camille Fouillard for all her hard work in putting this report together, and to all the board staff for their ongoing contributions to the education of our Innu children.
